Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil

How To Safely Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are widely used in many different applications daily. However, it’s important to remember that they are powerful substances and if not used with care they can be harmful.

While a few essential oils can be used directly on the skin, it’s always best to err on the side of caution and follow safe dilution rates. Undiluted essential oils that are applied topically have the potential to cause allergic reactions or even severe burns, so please ensure you follow the guidelines for safe use.

UseDilution Range
Facial products, cosmetics, deodorants0.2 – 1.5%
Body lotions and balms1 – 3%
Bath products2 – 4%
Wounds, acne, therapeutic2 – 10%
Perfume3 – 10%

The above table is a general guideline for dilution rates of essential oils. Some essential oils such as clove or cinnamon bark are more likely to cause adverse skin reactions so should be used at the lower end of the dilution range.
